Privacy Terms Community Guidelines
Short version: be a real person, be honest about who you are, don't post anything you wouldn't want reported, and remember the words you post here are yours — but by posting you're letting Contraversus show them to other users.

Who can use this

Contraversus is built for sixth-form, college, and university-age debate — but anyone can sign up. You need to provide an accurate email address and keep your account secure. If you're under 18, we'd encourage you to make sure a parent or guardian is aware you're using the platform, given it involves posting publicly to other users.

Your account

You're responsible for whatever happens under your account. Don't share your password, and tell us if you think someone else has access to your account.

Your content

Whatever you post — takes, room prompts, profile bio — is yours. By posting it, you give Contraversus a licence to display, store, and distribute it as part of running the platform (for example, showing your take in a room's feed, or on your public Noted page if someone notes it). You confirm you have the right to post whatever you submit, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Contraversus to:

  • Post hate speech, harassment, threats, or content that targets someone based on a protected characteristic — see our Community Guidelines for the full standard.
  • Post anything illegal, including content that sexualises or endangers minors, incites violence, or infringes someone's intellectual property.
  • Impersonate another person, or misrepresent your affiliation with any society, school, or institution when creating a room.
  • Spam, scrape, or attempt to disrupt the platform (including bypassing rate limits or the word filter deliberately).
  • Use automated tools to create accounts or post content at scale.

Rooms and moderation

If you create a room, you're responsible for keeping it civil — you're its moderator by default. We may remove any room, take, or account that violates these terms or our Community Guidelines, with or without notice, at our discretion.

No warranty

Contraversus is provided "as is." We're a small, early-stage platform — we don't guarantee it will always be available, bug-free, or suitable for any particular purpose. Use it knowing that.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Contraversus and its operator aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the platform. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited (for example, in relation to death or personal injury caused by negligence).

Ending your account

You can stop using Contraversus and ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing hello@contraversus.com. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Changes

We may update these terms as the platform grows. If we make a material change, we'll update the date at the top of this page.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

A note on this document

This is a plain-language starting point, not a substitute for legal advice. Get it properly reviewed before relying on it for a public launch, particularly given under-18 users.
